As a local family nestled in the picturesque region of the Algarve, we’ve always cherished our time spent amidst the breathtaking landscapes and adventurous spots that define our this beautiful area.
Recently, the Algarve welcomed a new addition to its collection of natural wonders – the Alferce Suspension Bridge. Situated amidst the lush green hills of the Monchique mountains, this bridge is an amazing work of the timber construction and a gateway to family adventure!

The bridge itself is a sight to behold. Stretching gracefully across the valley below, it offers panoramic views of the surrounding countryside, with the meandering river below. As we stepped onto the bridge for the first time, we were greeted by a gentle sway, a reminder of the bridge’s suspension design that adds an element of thrill to the experience.

For those seeking a quick adventure, a short tour by parking close to the bridge and walking back and forth offers a delightful taste of the bridge’s charm.
However, for those with more time and a desire to delve deeper into the heart of Alferce, a grand tour awaits. Parking on the road and venturing through the village of Alferce, one can find a traditional white Portuguese church standing proudly amidst the narrow streets. Good to know: Right next to the church is a small playground and a public WC – a perfect spot for a stopover with kids. And if you’re lucky, you might just stumble upon a few friendly felines eager for a cuddle.

As parents, we’ve always sought to instill a sense of wonder and excitement in our children, and the Alferce Suspension Bridge provided the perfect opportunity to do just that. Watching our little ones gaze in awe at the vast expanse below, their eyes alight with excitement, reminded us of the magic that can be found in the simplest of experiences.
So if you find yourself seeking adventure and family fun amidst the beauty of the Algarve, look no further than the Alferce Suspension Bridge. With its awe-inspiring views and boundless opportunities for exploration, it’s a destination that promises long lasting memories. Come join us as we embark on our next great adventure, one step at a time.
Note: The hike is only suitable for your family if the children can walk well or if you carry your children. The path has many steps and is not suitable for baby carriages or wheelchairs.
